Stack/Unstack Tutorial for Procreate 2023

Hello, there. If you’ve been stacking your artwork in Procreate on your iPad without any idea how you are going to unstack them (since you didn’t need to so far), but you now need to, then this is the right place for you!

We have all struggled with this before and we are more than willing to help you out. Well, since you are here, then you have already learned how to stack! Good for you! [background applause].

In this post we are going to share with you how we go about:

1. Stacking a single artwork.
2. Stacking multiple artworks.
3. Unstacking a single artwork.
4. Unstacking multiple artworks.

1. Stacking a single artwork.

You just long tap and then drag an artwork, hover over another one. Then DROP! And you got yourself a stack!

2. Stacking multiple artworks.

And if you don’t know this already you can mark more than one artwork and then stack them all at once. How’s that, you ask? Well, You can do that by long-tapping an artwork, you then drag it to the other artwork where you want to create a stack, and when it turns blue, you go ahead and mark other artworks that you want to include in the same stack using your other index finger.

There! You got your first stack that you are probably struggling with right now, and desperately need to unstack! Probably how you landed on our blog, hehe. Good for us. And now enough teasing you already!

3. Unstack a single artwork.

It is actually pretty simple to unstack. All you have to do is long-tap your artwork that you want to remove from the stack and drag it to the word “Stack”. Now, procreate will take you outside the stack to where your gallery is. What you need to do now is drop your artwork where you need it to be.

4. Unstack multiple artworks.

Pretty similar to the steps above. However, this time with one finger you long-tap an artwork that you need to remove. Keep holding it. And with your other index finger from your other hand, you mark other artworks that you need to remove. You then hover Again over the word “Stack”. It will take you to the gallery, so just drop it there.

Well, then what?! We unstacked the artworks, but still have one artwork that is named as a stack!

Well don’t you just throw your arms up in frustration just yet! Because we are going to do the very last task.

Just drag the remaining artwork out of the empty stack! Duh! you can follow exactly the same steps of how to unstack a single artwork mentioned above. I know, I know you shouldn’t have to do this. I hear you but this is how Procreate works!
