There are only essentially 2 guidelines for hand lettering, as opposed to calligraphy: light pressure on upstrokes (thin lines), and heavier pressure on downstrokes (thicker lines). Everything else, in my opinion, can be interpreted artistically.

These practice sheets are not intended to force you to write in my style or to employ my methods; rather, I want you to “try on” my style while still refining your own.

Since hand lettering requires a lot of repetition, which may grow boring, I particularly like experimenting with various letterers’ styles. The variety keep you interested as the actions develop muscle memory. Your unique style will develop more organically as you get more adept at making letters, and it will continue to develop. In reality, I’ve changed quite a bit since I started making these practice sheets, and I find that quite thrilling! I’m hoping you’ll agree.

— An alternate flourish sheet for 4 letters: B, D, G, Y

Depending on your desire or level of comfort, you can zoom in or out on your page to make the sheets larger or smaller.

Directional arrows are on a separate layer and are deactivatable.

To stay organized, keep each stack of sheets separate. Drag two files onto one another in Procreate to start a new stack. The remainder of the pages can be dragged into the newly formed stack. To be printed:

When printing, the PDF can be resized to make the guides larger or smaller depending on your desire or level of comfort. For brush pens, the standard print size (scaled to fit 8.5 x 11″) is ideal.

The guidelines offer 5 lines to allow you the flexibility to size your own text or tool to your own degree of comfort.

Can be printed on common printer paper as many times as desired. There’s no need to practice on expensive paper!

Can be used with pencils, brush pens, markers, watercolors, and other writing implements.

Place a sheet of tracing paper on top of your practice sheet to provide a smoother surface for your brush pens.

 How to install it: 

Steps:

1. Download brushes from Brush Galaxy (Products are in zip format)
2. Install the Unzipping application from the App Store (Recommendation: iZipp)
3. Decompress the zip product file
4. Tap the brush/brushset file to open it in Procreate
5. Use them to make beautiful art
